Thank you Werner and Susan!! What began as a mere glimmer in the eyes of Werner and Susan Zehnder less than a year ago has finally come to fruition. Today the Bend Park and Recreation District advised that the 8 new courts at Pine Nursery Park were completed to their satisfaction and that play can now begin! The Bend Pickleball Club and pickleball players for generations to come owe the Zehnders a debt of gratitude for the generous donation that got the ball rolling on this project. We are proud to be home to the finest pickleball courts in the Pacific Northwest, if not the entire United States!!

The sign ups are now open for the entire week of June 1. For future sign ups, sign ups for a session become available 7 days plus 3 hours ahead of the scheduled session. The 8:30 session for Tuesday June 9 will go on line on Tuesday June 2 at 5:30. You must use the email you have registered at Bend Pickleball Club. (That will be the email at which you received this email, in case you have any doubt.) You may only sign up for sessions under your current Bend Pickleball Club rating. If you don’t know your current rating, check your profile at the BPC website, Members tab, Member Profile. Your current BPC rating is at the bottom of the page. If you want to change your rating, sign up for one of the rating sessions or do it through Round Robin play. See the BPC website for further information. One more thing: SignUp Genius is not linked to the BPC member database. You will have to create a separate registration using your BPC email address and a password of your choosing.
General Meeting: There will be no meeting in June. There is a lot going on with the OSG Tournament and we don’t want to ask any more of your time. The next general meeting will be in mid July, date to-be-announced.
Board of Directors: There are several Board positions up for election. We are seeking nominations for Director of Operations, Membership Chair, and Secretary-Treasurer. A general descripition of the duties of each of these positions is available at the BPC website, About Us tab, Board of Directors. The Bend Pickleball Club is a vibrant and growing organization that has been instrumental in growing pickleball in Central Oregon. Our club is known well beyond our boundaries for what we have accomplished here in Central Oregon. We want to keep that going and we need commited leadership to make it happen. If you or someone you know would be willing to lend your time and talents to help us grow, please submit a nomination to Jamie Filipeli at jfilipeli@bendpickleballclub.com or any of the current board members.
Tournament Updates: The Oregon Senior Games Pickleball Tournament will close on June 9. If you’re still dragging your feet, get your registration in! There is a list of people seeking partners at the registration site. Go to the BPC website, Tournaments tab, Upcoming Tournaments to register. We also need volunteers for this tournament. There is a link to the volunteer sign up at the same page. We need help with lots of chores, but especially First Aid. If you or someone you know can fill a shift, please do!
The USAPA Pacific Northwest Regional Big Country RV Bend Pickleball Tournament (pause while I catch my breath) is FULL. With over 300 players registered, this is going to be a big deal! If you haven’t completed your registration, please go to the registration site and wrap it up. We will work with registered players on getting partners, but new registrants are being turned away.
LaPine Pickleball Club is hosting a tournament on June 13, 2015. Cost is $20 and proceeds go to benefit LaPine Recreation District Adult Recreation and Education programs. For more information call LaPine Park and Recreation District at 541-536-2223 or visit www.lapineparks.org.
The Racquet Shoppe has MOVED! Our favorite purveyor of pickleball gear has moved to 55 NW Wall St. Just take Colorado Ave. to the 2nd light and then make a left on Wall and a right into parking lot, and the shop is in the spot on the corner!
Ponderosa Park play: There is a good group of players that gather for play fairly regularly at Ponderosa Park. Joan Spongberg has an email list that keeps interested persons apprised of what is going on and when. If you would like to be included in the group, send Joan an email at rsss@bendbroadband.com and let her know. Thanks to Joan and everyone involved in keeping things bouncing at Ponderosa Park!
