We’re already a month in to the winter season. Last week we received a generous serving of slow-release water to resupply the landscape. The snowbirds have flown the coop and the rest have scattered to various indoor pickleball venues around the area. Word is that the desert dwellers are suffering through dry days and warm temperatures and missing out on all of this beautiful scenery!
Pine Nursery Park Play: Pine Nursery Park will remain open for the winter. Bend P&R does not clean off the courts. Brian Firebaugh has volunteered to blow them off periodically. If you do go out to the courts and find there is water or other debris that will interfere with play, we ask that you do not use brooms, or squeegees or anything that rubs the surface of the courts to remove debris. Do not use shovels, scrapers, snow blowers, axes, chemicals, or any other means to remove ice or snow from the courts. This will cause permanent damage to the courts surfaces! If it won’t clear with a leaf blower, then it’s time to play indoors! Check the BPC webpage for other indoor venues.
Roberta McQuinn has created a SUG page where members can let each other know who is going to be where and when. Here is the link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0d45a9ac2faaff2-open . The link is also located at the Where to Play page at the BPC website.
B&GC Play : Boys and Girls Club is currently at 15 sessions with room to add 3 more.
SignUps at BGC: Sign up rules are established to allow all players equal access to the play schedule. The Courts Use Group has created a 2/6 rule that says that a player may only sign up for 2 sessions in the next 6 day period. A player may only exceed the 2/6 rule to fill a vacancy in a session on the day prior to that scheduled session.
Because a player could conceivably fill last minute vacancies in 2 sessions in the next 24 hours, it is possible to be signed up for 4 sessions in the next 6 days, but it is highly unlikely.
To determine if you are eligible to sign up for a session:
- Log in to SignUpGenius.
- Click on My Account (upper right corner of the page.)
- Click the “+” sign next to “Items I’ve Signed Up For.”
- Count the number of items listed.
- Do the math…
The Kitchen: The Kitchen is an on-line message board for members to exchange communications about pickleball. It was introduced a month or so ago, and after a flurry of activity it has cooled off. If you have questions or comments to share with the club, consider using The Kitchen. The Kitchen could also be a good resource for Lost & Found items. It may not be a good idea to stow expensive articles that are left behind in the storage room at Boys and Girls Club. If you do find something or lose something after a session, consider hanging on to it and making a post in The Kitchen. If you’ve lost something, a post may help get it back to you.
Nuptials: Congratulations to David Shirley and Sherie Browning who ran off and got hitched this week. The new Mr. & Mrs. David Shirley will be back after the Thanksgiving holidays.
Tournaments: The 2015 Oregon Senior Games and the Big Country RV Bend Pickleball Tournament are scheduled for June 19-21 and August 14-16 respectively. Registration for the Senior Games tournament opens December 1 and for the BCRVBPT on January 1. Check the BPC website under the tournament tabs for registration links and other information.

Lisa Palcic will be instructing. Cost is $25 for a series of 4 lessons. For more information visit the BPC webpage under the Clinics tab or call 541-536-2223 or email carol.ocasey@lapineparks.org.
